Monthly Cultural Programs

Leadership and Cultural Programs in collaboration with students, staff, faculty, and departments provides educational and entertaining program opportunities that cover a wide range of cultural and identity development topics, raising awareness and understanding to create a more inclusive campus community.

Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15)
Annual observance of Hispanic and Latino Americans' contributions to society and to celebrate their heritage.

Past events have included:

  • Salsa Night
  • Loteria Bingo
  • Piñata Breaking Trivia
  • Keynote Speaker: Stanley Pearson

International Day of Peace (September 21)
A day dedicated to peace and the absence of war and violence. Education on how to respond to domestic violence and resources for victims of violence.

Past events have included:

  • Candlelight Vigil
  • Pinwheels for Peace
  • Giving Voice

National Coming Out Week (October 11)
Observed annually to celebrate "Coming Out" and to raise awareness for the LGBT community and its supporters.

Past events have included:

  • National Coming Out Day Ally Lunch
  • Coming Out Stars
  • Matthew Shepard Day

Native American Heritage Month (November)
Observed annually to recognize the contributions and events that Native Americans have made and help shape society

Past events have included:

  • Joseph Marshall- Leadership Lessons of Crazy Horse- The Power of Four
  • Joseph Marshall- Life Lessons: A gift from the Lakota to the World (adapted play by Missouri S&T Theatre department)

Black History Month (February)
Annual observance in honor and remembrance of important events and people that have shaped African-American culture.

Past events have included:

  • Black History Month Kick-Off with soul food
  • Black History Month Trivia
  • Movie Showing- (Coming to America, The Help, The Great Debaters)
  • Black History Month Celebration- featuring student performances
  • Community Drum Circle
  • Keynote Speakers: Dr. Illya Davis, Lasana Hotep

Women's History Month (March)
Annual observance that highlights the contributions women have made in history.

Past events have included:

  • Women's History Month Kick-Off
  • Community Service Project
  • International Women's Day
  • Chocolate Lounge & Inspirational Woman Awards
  • Self-Defense
  • Women's Resource Fair
  • Spaghetti and Waffles
  • Keynote Speakers: Dr. Katrina Thompson
